High Speed Rail

DRAGADOS has played a key role in the development of Spain’s high-speed rail network, the second largest in the world, with more than 1,925 miles of track. In this field, the company has delivered over 621 miles of infrastructure and 1,553 miles of superstructure, including 99 miles of tunnels and numerous stations.

DRAGADOS’ participation in high-speed rail projects began in 1988. Since then, 41 major projects have been delivered, and over the last decade 12 significant projects have been designed and constructed in Spain, France, the United Kingdom, and the United States. This experience has enabled DRAGADOS to develop in-depth expertise in planning, technical requirements, and contractual specifications associated with this type of infrastructure. 

Among the most notable projects in recent years are key stations within the network, including Atocha (Madrid), La Sagrera, and Sants (Barcelona).

Within Spain’s high-speed rail network executed by DRAGADOS—including tunnels, viaducts, track, and electrification—the following lines stand out:

At international level, the Figueras–Perpignan line stands out, linking the Spanish and French networks through the 5-mile Perthus Tunnel beneath the Pyrenees.

Currently, FlatironDragados, one of the company’s subsidiaries, is delivering the first high speed rail line in the United States, the California High-Speed Rail System, through the 65-mile Fresno–Bakersfield section.
